Pune records 527 new COVID-19 cases, four fatalities on February 19

Pune reported 527 new coronavirus cases, taking its caseload to 1,96,916 on Friday. A total of 280 patients were discharged during the day, taking the number of active cases to 2,399. As of now, 1,89,701 people have been discharged/ recovered.

According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the city registered 4 new deaths, taking the toll to 4,816.

As many as 6,112 fresh cases were reported during the day, most of them coming from Akola, Pune and Mumbai divisions, said an official of the state health department.

The state had reported more than 6,000 cases in a single day on October 30 earlier, and the numbers had dropped steadily thereafter.

With 6,112 cases on Friday, caseload in the state rose to 20,87,632, while 44 fatalities took the death toll to 51,713, the official said.

With the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena has pinned the blame on the BJP saying temple politics led to a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.

Targeting the BJP, Sena mouthpiece Saamana’s editorial slammed the saffron party and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for launching “Ghantanaad”, a protest demanding the reopening of temples in the state.
