Pune Rains | Puneites beware: Water will be released from Khadakwasla dam today evening at 5 pm

PUNE: Pune Rains | The Khadakwasla dam was filled up to 87 per cent of its capacity on Tuesday at 6 am. It is raining heavily in the catchment area of Khadakwasla dam. At present, it is filled up to 90 per cent of its capacity. As a result, on Tuesday, from 4 pm to 6 pm, 856 cusec water will be released into Mutha river, said a senior official of Irrigation Department.

 

It has been raining continuously in the Khadakwasla reservoir system for four days. Hence, the level of water is increasing rapidly. After the Khadakwasla dam was filled up to 81 per cent of its capacity, it was decided to release water from the canal. On Tuesday at 6 am, the Khadakwasla dam was filled up to 87 per cent of its capacity. At 6 am, 900 cusec water was released into the Mutha canal but still the water level in Khadakwasla dam is increasing.

 

It is raining heavily in the catchment area of Khadakwasla dam and Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar dams. After the Khadakwasla dam is filled up to 95 per cent of its capacity, 856 cusec water is going to be released. If the intensity of the rain increases, more water will be released, an official said.

 

The Khadakwasla Irrigation Department has issued a warning that nobody should enter the river bed and if any goods or animals have been tied in the river bed, they should be immediately shifted. People staying near the river should take precautionary measures.
