Pune: Rainfall in August fulfilled the Monsoon quota for the year

Pune: July has been observed as a rain-deficient month for punekars. However, in the August month , the frequent rainfall has  fulfilled the entire monsoon quota of rainfall of the city for this year. The dams are filled with water that is supplied to Pune regions.

Shivajinagar and Lohegaon, have received excess rainfall over 162.4mm and 262.1mm, respectively. The total rainfall received by  Shivajinagar was 572.6mm from June 1 till 8.30am on August 21 as against the normal of 410.2mm for this period. The average monsoon quantum for Shivaji Nagar from June to September is 566.3mm. Whereas Lohegaon has received a huge rainfall of 602.8mm from June 1 to August 21. The average rain for the location is 340.7mm for this period. Its June to September monsoon quantum is 486.2mm. More rain is likely with another 40 days for the monsoon to end.

Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather, India Meteorological Department, Pune , said, ‘Pune has received a good amount of rainfall after 12 August, it has been raining continuously for 8-10 days. The ghats and catchments of dams continued to get isolated to very heavy rain then normal,  followed by isolated heavy rain from August 15-18’.

The four dams which supply water to Pune are nearly full to its 100% capacity. The total storage was 98.4% till friday evening
