Pune PMC News | Pune Municipal Corporation Embraces Third Gender Representation in Security Department

Pune : Pune PMC News | In a historic decision that has been widely applauded, the security department of the Pune Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step towards inclusivity by including members of the third gender in its ranks. transgender Raju, also known as Sanvi Doifode, a scholar of saint literature and a talented kirtan artist, has joined the service as a security guard. Raju expressed his intention to serve while carrying out his responsibilities in protecting the Pune Mahapalika Bhavan.

Raju Doifode shared his personal journey, stating that his life was seemingly normal until the age of ten when he began to realize that he was somehow different. Despite his efforts to distract himself through studies and sports, he continued to face discrimination and judgment due to his way of walking and talking. However, his love for kirtan remained strong. He pursued his studies in Kirtan at an institute in Alandi and performed kirtan in various places. Yet, he encountered the same discrimination once again, leading him to consider giving up his passion for kirtan.

At that point, Raju made the courageous decision to open up to his family about his experiences and his identity. Unfortunately, he faced rejection from both his family and society. He left home and relied on the support of two friends. Despite his best efforts to find work, he was met with constant rejections, eventually resorting to begging on the streets to survive. It was during this challenging period that he came across an advertisement from the Pune Municipal Corporation seeking security guards from the transgender community. He applied for the position and successfully fulfilled all the administrative requirements, ultimately joining as a security guard in the main building of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

Raju expressed his joy and gratitude for the opportunity to live with dignity through his role as a security guard. However, he also acknowledged the ongoing challenges he faces with family and society’s lack of acceptance, which continues to cause him sadness.

Despite the obstacles he has encountered, Raju remains determined to pursue his passion for kirtan. He aspires to perform kirtan again, this time in a saree, while continuing his duties as a security guard. He called for greater acceptance and understanding, emphasizing that everyone, including members of the third gender community, deserves to be accommodated and respected.

Deputy Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation, Madhav Jagtap, highlighted the importance of inclusivity in society. To ensure that members of the third gender community can live with dignity, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar made the decision to fill 25 security guard positions with individuals from this community. Out of the 33 applications received, ten candidates have been appointed, and the remaining vacancies will be filled soon.
