Pune PMC Election 2024 | Will the Pune Pattern be repeated in the PMC poll? Ajit Pawar’s rebellion gives rise to speculations

PUNE : Pune PMC Election 2024 | NCP leader Ajit Pawar had entered into an alliance with Shiv Sena and BJP in the PMC to keep Suresh Kalmadi away from power in 2007. The Pune Pattern had become famous in the state. Now, BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP are part of the state government. Hence, the equations are going to change in civic elections. A question is being raised whether the Pune Pattern will be repeated in PMC.

Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi and NCP leader Ajit Pawar were at loggerheads. Hence, Pawar took BJP leader Vinod Tawde and former Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant into confidence to keep Kalmadi away from power and created the Pune Pattern.

Rajlaxmi Bhosle of NCP became mayor and Shiv Sena got the deputy mayor’s seat and the chairmanship of the standing committee. The Pune Pattern became famous. Later, before the assembly election, the Pune Pattern was broken. The Congress and NCP came together in the PMC. In the 2012 civic polls, the Congress and NCP came together. They worked together for five years. In 2017, the BJP won the civic polls single handedly. After the assembly poll, NCP’s Ajit Pawar and BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis held an early morning swearing-in ceremony. However, Sharad Pawar quelled the rebellion.

To keep BJP away from power, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP came together and formed the government of Maha Vikas Aghadi. After two and a half years, 40 MLAs of Shiv Sena broke away and Eknath Shinde became CM and Devendra Fadnavis became Deputy CM. After completing a year, NCP leader Ajit Pawar joined the Shiv Sena and BJP government with 29 MLAs. Hence, this has given rise to speculation over the Pune Pattern.

The PMC is being ruled by the administrator at present. In the forthcoming elections, Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena were going to contest the poll together under the MVA umbrella. However, the Pune Pattern has been created in the state. Questions are being raised whether BJP will contest the elections on its own or contest by taking together NCP and Shiv Sena.

The Shiv Sena has split and there are two groups i.e. Shinde group and Thackeray group. Now, there is a split in the NCP. One section is with Sharad Pawar and the other is with Ajit Pawar.

The Congress, Thackeray group are with Sharad Pawar. Hence, in the forthcoming civic poll, the election may be a contest between MVA versus BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP Ajit Pawar faction i.e Pune Pattern.
