Pune News | Liver transplant carried out successfully despite different blood groups of donor and recipient

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune News | Generally, during an organ transplant operation, a donor having the same blood group is required. However, a liver transplant was carried out even when the donor had a different blood group. The doctors in Pune performed an operation successfully even when the donor had a different blood group. A man whose liver was damaged was donated a part of liver by his daughter and saved his life. (Pune News)

A 52-year-old rickshaw driver from Solapur was suffering from liver cancer. It was necessary to carry out a liver transplant to save his life. However, donors with matching blood groups could not be found. His 25-year-old daughter, a nurse, agreed to donate a part of her liver. Her blood group was not matching her father’s group. The patient’s blood is O type and his daughter’s blood group is of A category.

The Chief of the organ transplant unit at Sahyadri Hospital Dr Bipin Vibhute, led the team of doctors and successfully carried out the transplant. Because of different blood groups, the initial challenge was to overcome immunity-related problems and this challenge was successfully overcome. During an examination after the operation, the patient’s liver was found to be working normally.
