Pune News | Laundry Operator Faces Legal Action for Discharging Contaminated Water into Pavana River

Pimpri: Pune News |  In a shocking revelation, Vighnaharta Clearance Laundry and Drycleaners Services in Chinchwadenagar has been accused of discharging contaminated water directly into the pristine Pavana river without any treatment. This blatant environmental violation has led to swift action from the authorities, with a case registered against the laundry operator, Swapnil Sase.

The investigation into this alarming incident was initiated by Amol Gorkhe, a health inspector from the environment department of the municipal corporation. After verifying the complaint, Gorkhe promptly filed a case at the Chinchwad police station against Sase and his laundry business.

According to Sanjay Kulkarni, Associate City Engineer of the Environment Department, the water in the Pavana river near Kejubai dam was observed to be covered in a large amount of white foam on July 16. This raised concerns about possible contamination and prompted MP Srirang Barne to bring the issue to the attention of Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

The subsequent investigation of Vighnaharta Clearance Laundry and Drycleaners Services revealed a disturbing reality. The establishment, owned by Chinchwadenagar resident Swapnil Sase, was found to be releasing untreated wastewater from its laundry operations directly into the river. Such irresponsible practices not only pose a grave threat to the environment but also compromise public health.

As a consequence of these findings, the municipal corporation issued a notice to Sase, demanding immediate rectification of the situation. However, the severity of the offense led to further legal action, with a complaint filed at the Chinchwad police station and a case registered against the laundry operator.

In another troubling revelation, it has come to light that the premises housing Vighnaharta Clearance Laundry and Drycleaners Services is owned by a Chief Clerk of the Municipal Corporation, who is an ex-officer of the Federation of Employees. This raises questions about accountability and the role of the municipal employee in allowing the operation of an unlicensed laundry business within the premises.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing concern over the implications of such unchecked environmental violations. The discharge of contaminated water not only poses a threat to the ecosystem of the Pavana river but also raises questions about the overall enforcement of environmental regulations in the region.

As the legal proceedings unfold, many are closely watching the actions that Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh will take against the municipal employee involved in this matter. Stricter monitoring and enforcement of environmental standards are urgently needed to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
