Pune News | A big hostel to come up on SPPU campus, says Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune News | There is a proposal to build a hostel for 1,000 students each for boys and girls. It will be built within one-and-a-half years. Moreover, a steam-based central kitchen, providing meals to maximum number of students simultaneously, will be set up to find a permanent solution to food issues the students are currently facing in the university. This was revealed by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi here on Thursday. He was speaking at an interaction with journalists organised by the Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ). PUWJ President Pandurang Sandbhor and its General Secretary Sukrut Mokashi were present.

“The SPPU is entering its diamond jubilee year. The university is undertaking some ambitious projects to mark the occasion,” said Gosavi.

SPPU VC Gosavi said, “We have signed MoUs with prestigious universities from across the world. Post-doctoral fellowships will be granted to students under the agreement with Texas University. Senior forest officers will be offered postgraduate programmes in the SPPU as per the agreement with the Union Ministry of Forest. Multi-disciplinary schools will be set up at Ahmednagar and Nashik sub-centres. Initiatives will be launched as per the needs of local students.”

“The new National Education Policy will be implemented in all affiliated colleges of the SPPU from next academic year. Various graduate and postgraduate programmes will be readied by September 30. We are continuously pursuing with the Central Government to grant the ‘Institute of Eminence’ status to the SPPU,” said Gosavi.

*A cell will be set up for assisting and giving equal opportunity to Divyang students

*A special issue will be brought out on the occasion of SPPU diamond jubilee

*An independent centre will be established to create syllabi in Marathi

*Academic Calendar will be restored

The Science Congress is organised in the country every year by the Indian Science Congress Association. On the same lines, a Maharashtra Science Congress will be held in the SPPU, in cooperation with the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences.
