Pune: Mundhwa Police arrest two-wheeler thief within 24 hours

Pune: A thief who used to steal two-wheelers to have fun has been arrested within 48 hours from filing of the case. The action was taken under the BT Kawade bridge. The accused has been identified as Imran Sikandar Shaikh (34), a resident of Ghorpadi.

Bhagiraj Shankarayya Mundlapati (24), a resident of Ghorpadi, lodged a complaint at the Mundhwa Police Station on Friday. The complainant had parked his two-wheeler (MH12MN9323) outside Universal Fitness Club on BT Kawade Road. It was stolen from there.

A member of the team investigating the crime, policeman Hemant Perne, got a tip-off that a person was standing below the BT Kawade bridge with the stolen bike. The police team set a trap and arrested the accused. When inquired about the two-wheeler, he evaded a direct answer. After sustained interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar, Jt CP (Addl Charge) Ramnath Pokale, Addl CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma, DCP R Raja and ACP Ashwini Rakh. The police team comprising Sr PI Mahesh Bolkotgi, API Sandeep Jore, policemen Santosh Kale, Santosh Jagtap, Dinesh Bhandurge, Dinesh Rane, Mahesh Pathak, Rahul More, Swapnil Raskar, Hemant Perne and Sachin Patil took the action.
