Pune Mahavitaran News | Pune’s Electricity Consumers & Mahavitaran Bear Brunt of Frequent Power Cuts As Underground Lines Get Cut

Pune: Pune Mahavitaran News | On behalf of the National Highway Authority, the work of the National Highway between Navale Bridge and Katraj Chowk is underway. However, the work of shifting the power system of Mahavitran around this highway has been stalled since October 2022. On the other side, drilling is being done by JCB for various works with authorization from Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited and other agencies. In this, as the underground power lines of Mahavitran are being cut frequently, the Mahavitran along with the electricity consumers have to bear the agony of broken power supply and both are suffering huge financial loss.

Meanwhile, due to the continuous cutting of underground power lines during the day or night during digging, about 45 to 50 thousand electricity consumers in the area of Katraj, Ambegaon, Santoshnagar, Dattanagar, Jambhulwadi, Gujarwadi, Mangdewadi, Bharti University are being hit hard by interrupted power supply.

In the last fortnight, underground power lines were cut at as many as 14 places by JCB during the excavation of ‘MNGL’ and other systems. A single 22 KV transmission line cuts off electricity supply to thousands of consumers simultaneously. Therefore, engineers and employees of Mahavitran have to work continuously at war level. During the digging of ‘MNGL’, underground power lines were cut at 8 places in the last 15 days. Due to this, the electricity supply of 40 thousand customers was interrupted. Mahavitaran had to bear an expenditure of about 4 lakh 50 thousand rupees to reconnect these channels. Also due to interrupted power supply, 12 lakh units i.e. about Rs 1 crore 20 lakhs were damaged. A criminal complaint has been filed by Mahavitaran in Katraj Police Station in this regard.

Road widening work is underway by the National Highways Authority of India. Before the start of this work, Mahavitran has approved the budget for shifting the underground power lines and related systems along the road. The authority is responsible for the work of shifting the power system. But this work is stalled since October 2022. Interestingly, as the road widening work was carried out without shifting the power system, six high voltage lines of 22 KV road cross of Mahavitran were buried 15 to 20 feet deep. In case of any failure in these channels, it is very difficult to repair it and it will take a long time.

From time to time follow-up has been done with the Authority for shifting the power system from Mahavitran. But this work has not yet gained momentum. Quick start of power supply through alternative arrangements due to broken power lines. Engineers and employees of Mahavitran have to run day and night to repair power lines. Along with this, the Mahavitaran has to bear the wrath of the electricity consumers as well as the financial burden of repairs, loss of electricity sales
