Pune : Introduced through matrimonial site, man dupes woman of Rs 9 lakh

Pune: A man who introduced himself as a Malaysia-based professional on a matrimonial site, lured a woman into marriage and duped her of Rs 9 lakh on the pretext of buying some computers and accessories.

A 34-year-old woman has lodged a complaint in this regard. Based on this complaint, police have booked one Jagannath Patkule alias Sameer Joshi, residing at Satara. The victim woman is working as a team leader in a multinational company.

According to the complaint, the complainant had registered her name on a matrimony site Jeevansathi.com. She was contacted by one man named Sameer Joshi on her mobile phone. He told her that he worked in a company based at Malaysia. Later, he told her that he has returned to India. The suspect and victim met a few times during which he gained her confidence and lured her into marriage. The victim believed him and taking undue advantage of her trust, the suspect took Rs 9 lakh in cash and cheque on the pretext of buying computers and accessories from time to time. This happened since February till now.

Meanwhile, after taking Rs 9 lakh the suspect disconnected with the victim. He blocked her on the whatsapp messenger service app and then stopped receiving her calls. When the victim realised that the man could be a fraudster, she approached police and lodged a complaint. Primary investigations revealed that the man who posed as Sameer Joshi, was a resident of Satara and his real name is Jagannath Patkule. Assistant Police Inspectot Vikas Raut is investigating the case.
