Pune: International Moot Court Competition Concluded at Bharati Vidyapeeth New Law College

Prize Distribution Ceremony held at hands of Justice Abhay Oka

Pune: The grand culmination of the prestigious 12th Justice P.N. Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights, 2024 unfolded on March 23rd, 2024, marking the conclusion of three days filled with profound legal discourse and advocacy. With the distinguished presence of 50 national and international teams representing esteemed institutions, the event showcased the pinnacle of legal intellect grappling with pressing human rights issues.

Valedictory Ceremony was graced with the presence of distinguished dignitaries that included Justice Abhay S Oka, Judge,Supreme Court of India as the Chief Guest for the day. Justice S Thurairaja, Judge, Supreme Court of Sri Lanka; Justice Husnu Al Suood, Judge, Supreme Court of Maldives; Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, Former Judge, Supreme Court of Nepal; Justice Aniruddha P. Mayee, Judge, High Court of Gujarat; Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal, Judge, High Court of Allahabad; Ms. Justice Sophy Thomas, Judge, High Court of Kerala also present on occasion. Competiton organized under guidance of Dean & In-Charge Principal Dr. Ujwala Bendale, and Prof. Dr. Shivangi Sinha, Faculty Convenor.The distinguished panel of dignitaries delivered profound speeches, emphasizing the paramount importance of human rights advocacy and the pivotal role of law students in championing them.

The team from Christ (Deemed to be University), School of Law, Bangalore, emerged as the winners, with Symbiosis Law School, Pune, securing the runner-up position. The Best International Team award was conferred upon Independent University, Bangladesh. Additionally, Symbiosis Law School, Pune, was honoured with the Best Memorial award, while Ms. Aditi S. Nair of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, received the Best Researcher award. The Best Speaker award was presented to Ms. Naavya Dixit of National Law Institute University, Bhopal.

Following arduous semifinal rounds, two teams ascended as finalists, eloquently presenting their arguments before the esteemed five-judge bench. The august panel comprised Justice Husnu Al Suood, Judge, Supreme Court of Maldives; Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, Former Judge, Supreme Court of Nepal; Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal, Judge, High Court of Allahabad; Ms. Justice Sophy Thomas, Judge, High Court of Kerala; and Justice Aniruddha P. Mayee, Judge, High Court of Gujarat.

The resounding success of the 12th Justice P.N. Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights, 2024 stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of all involved. Special words of honour are extended to the Patrons, Dean & In-Charge Principal Dr. Ujwala Bendale, and Prof. Dr. Shivangi Sinha, Faculty Convenor for their adept guidance, which propelled the event to unprecedented heights of success. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to Mr. Tariq Khan, Registrar at IAMC, Hyderabad, for his unwavering support throughout the event.
