Pune Implements Major Transport Changes to Alleviate Traffic Congestion Woes

Pune: As traffic congestion continues to plague Pune, causing immense inconvenience to residents, significant modifications have been introduced to the city’s transport infrastructure. In a bid to address the escalating issue of traffic jams, Pune Traffic Police has announced a ban on heavy vehicles entering the city, effective from tomorrow, March 5.

Under the new directive, heavy vehicles from Pimpri Chinchwad, Mumbai, Satara, and Solapur will be prohibited from entering Pune. This measure aims to mitigate the traffic congestion prevalent on major thoroughfares within the city.

In addition to the ban on heavy vehicles within Pune’s city limits, restrictions extend to prominent arterial roads, including the Pune-Nagar, Pune-Solapur, and Pimpri-Chinchwad routes. To facilitate the smooth implementation of these changes, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and plan their journeys accordingly. Notably, heavy vehicles will now be rerouted via alternative paths to circumvent the city’s core areas.

The diversion routes include:

Shikrapur-Chakan Route: Heavy vehicles travelling from Wagholi to Pune city will be directed to utilise the Shikrapur-Chakan route, offering a viable alternative to bypassing the restricted zones. This route will provide connectivity to Pimpri Chinchwad and Talegaon Dabhade, enabling seamless transit for heavy vehicles originating from various directions.

Theur Phata Routes: Another alternative route via Theur Phata will cater to heavy vehicles destined for Solapur and Pune Saswad. Motorists can traverse through Lonikand and Shikrapur, facilitating efficient movement while alleviating congestion on main thoroughfares.
