Pune: Four horned antelopes, hyenas and leopard arrive at Katraj Zoo

PUNE: The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj has been given two pairs of four horned antelopes These two pairs have been brought from Kanan Pendhari Zoo in Bilaspur. Also, two hyenas and a leopard have been brought from Hampi zoo as per Katraj zoo’s demand.

The zoo at Katraj is a major tourist attraction. The zoo houses a total of 66 species of mammals, birds and reptiles representing the biodiversity of the Western Ghats. The moats in the zoo are large and have a natural look.

The animals in the zoo include asiatic lion, wild cat, giant squirrel, jackal, wild dog, hyenas, lion tailed macaque etc. Now, four horned antelopes and leopards have been added to it. The Kanan Pendhari Zoo at Bilaspur had two pairs of four horned antelopes and they have been gifted to Katraj Zoo by the Chhattisgarh forest department. Two hyenas and a leopard have been brought from Atal Behari Vajpayee Zoo at Hampi. Now, the number of leopards in the zoo has increased to four and they include three females and a male.

Zoo Director Dr Rajkumar Jadhav said that the zoo also has animals like tigers, elephants, bear, fox, wolf etc.
