Pune forest department’s biggest operation on encroachment site

In the encroachment site of Babhulgaon village in Indapur Taluka, Pune, Pune forest department with the help of JCB carried out one its biggest operation.

The Babhulgaon village which has a total population of 2505 with a village literacy rate of 68.2% and female literacy of 28%. The areas of land of the village on which illegal plantation of sugarcane was done by the farmers, is being cut down using the JCB machines. Such land was occupied and forest department in their drive took back the land.

At present, a total of15 JCBs are at work. Although, the staff had to cut all the illegal sugarcane plantation done by farmers manually at some areas since the farmers had deliberately released water on the farm to prevent the operation of JCB.
The manpower cost of JCB transports etc, all are being paid in advance and is yet to be reimbursed. The JCBs are being brought into exercise for the process. This is the culmination of 15 days of preparation. They have engaged private surveyors for this operation.

The land on the operation by JCB costs around 25-30 lakhs per acre which is an appreciable amount. Removing about 25 ha (hectares in area) of a plantation in the area that is an encroachment on forestland. This is the highest area of land which has been operated so far.

The said that the area of sugarcane plantation was not renewed and hence was out of their mind.

This is a major step taken by the forest department of Pune to prohibit illegal plantation of crops on authorized land by the farmers.

According to the map provided by them, Some areas of Babhulgaon village are still under encroachment and plantation of crops from some areas are being cut of that is on the operation by JCB.
