Pune Customs Department seizes gold worth Rs 18.9 lakh

NPnews24 Online Pune: Based on information provided by the Customs Department, a lady passenger was carrying gold on a  domestic Spicejet flight from Goa to Pune.

The officials from the Customs Department at Pune airport intercepted the passenger and did personal search, which resulted in the recovery of 557.64 grams of 24 carat gold .

Four gold pieces were found wrapped in black adhesive tapes in three packets and concealed in the shoes by the passenger.

The passenger collected the gold which was concealed in the boiler of front lavatory of the aircraft during the Goa to Pune flight.

The gold may have be concealed during the international leg of the flight from Bangkok to Kolkata. The flight route was Bangkok to Kolkata and later, it was used as a domestic flight.

The gold was in the form of parts of gold bar and valued at Rs 18,90,400.

All the gold items recovered from the above passengers were seized under the reasonable belief that the same was attempted to be smuggled into India and hence, liable for confiscation under provisions of the CustomsAact, 1962.

In a statement recorded under Section 108 of the Customs Act, 1962, the passenger admitted the possession of the said gold items which have been seizied by the Customs officers.

Further investigation regarding the same is underway.
