Pune Crime News | Dr. Amit Luthra’s Bail Rejected, Faces Serious Charges of Cruelty

Pune: Pune Crime News | The Vimantal Police Station of the Pune Police has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Dr. Amit Luthra and Rajiv Luthra under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 498A (cruelty by husband or relatives of husband) and 465 (forgery). The case came to light after a video purportedly showing the victim (a woman) went viral on social media, garnering widespread attention and media coverage in Pune.

The victim, a dentist, has accused Dr. Amit Luthra, a radiologist based in Viman Nagar, of subjecting her to continual surveillance at their home through CCTV cameras and demanding expensive gifts from her parents, including a high-end automobile, gold jewelry, and cash. The couple got married in May 2011 and has two children together. They co-founded a private corporation in 2021 and employed a team of five physicians and nine other staff members. However, the dentist alleges that she used all her savings to launch the business and buy their home. (Pune Crime News)

In a shocking turn of events, Dr. Luthra transferred both properties into his name alone, despite earlier understanding that the properties would be jointly owned. Furthermore, the victim claims that all her earnings were deposited directly into Dr. Luthra’s bank account, leaving her financially dependent and with no access to any bank accounts or financial information. The situation escalated when CCTV cameras were allegedly installed by the accused to monitor her every move within the house, leading to harassment and even police involvement.

The victim also reported facing mental and physical torture from Dr. Luthra and his brother, Rajiv. She emphasized her helplessness as she has no relatives in Maharashtra and is now living alone with her two children. The situation became unbearable when she was threatened with eviction from her home and the hospital they co-owned, prompting her to seek police assistance.

Based on her complaint, the police have booked Dr. Luthra and Rajiv Luthra under multiple sections of the IPC, including 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention). The victim further recounted incidents where she was allegedly ousted from Dr. Luthra’s native place in Nashik by her sister-in-law after their marriage. After relocating to Pune, the accused demanded Rs. 50 lakh from her parents to start a clinic, which they did. However, the dentist claims that Dr. Luthra forged her signature when forming a private limited company and continued making unjust demands from her family.

The seriousness of the allegations has led to the denial of ad interim anticipatory release for the accused by the Pune Sessions Court on July 19. As the case gains momentum, the State Women’s Commission plans to launch a full investigation. The victims’ plea for justice highlights the importance of ensuring safety and protection for women and the significance of addressing issues related to domestic violence and cruelty.
