Pune: CP Amitesh Kumar warns traffic police personnel of action if they focus on penalising violators instead of streamlining traffic

Pune: In the backdrop of deteriorating traffic issues in the city, newly appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has warned the traffic police personnel that action will be taken against those who waste precious time in penalizing traffic violators instead of streamlining traffic.

The CP told the traffic police that they should monitor traffic on priority. If there is a traffic jam in an area in the city, the traffic police should streamline traffic there on priority quickly. In such cases, if a police person is found penalising violators, action will be taken against them.

Kumar said, “A survey of the areas will be conducted, where traffic congestion happens frequently. It is the main job of the traffic police to monitor traffic and to take action against traffic rules violators. However, while penalizing violators, they are not supposed to ignore traffic monitoring. Action can be taken against a violator later by taking a photo of their vehicle. Streamlining traffic should be the priority of the traffic police.”

The police chief will interact with traders over traffic issues in the heart of the city. A joint meeting of local residents and businessmen will be held soon. There are encroachments on major roads and chowks in the city. Removing these encroachments will help streamline traffic. Follow-up will be taken with the civic body, said the CP.
