Pune commuter pays Rs 11,500 fine for riding without helmet

NPnews24 Online Pune: Be careful when you decide not to wear helmet the next time you go out on your two-wheeler. In a second incident of the kind within a fortnight, a rider has recently had to face a fine of around Rs 12,000, on being caught for not wearing a helmet.

When the said commuter left on his bike last week, little did he know that he was going to face a loss of over Rs 10,000 for a traffic violation.

Police constable Mohan Bhapkar, who caught him in Budhwar Chowk for not wearing a helmet found out that he had a total of 27 uncleared challans in his name, from March 21, 2018 to May 9, 2019. While 23 of these were for not wearing a helmet, remaining four accounted for other traffic violations. The total amount for all these challans came up to Rs 11,500. Bhapkar collected the whole fine from the violator through an e-challan.

The tracking of several traffic violations has been made possible by the Pune traffic police through the CCTV cameras installed at several traffic signals in the city. Even last week, the police collected a fine of Rs 24,000 from a car owner for several violations.
