Progressive thinker and teacher leader Dr. T D Lad passes away at 87 in Sangli

Sangli- Senior progressive thinker and teacher leader Dr. T. D. alias Tukaram Dhondiram Lad (age 87) died in Sangli on Thursday morning. He is survived by his wife Shalini, son Pratap, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

He had established Vishrambag Education Institute in Sangli. He also served as president of the organization for the past few years. After his MA BEd education, he worked for some time as the headmaster of Hindkesari Vidyalaya and Deshbhakt Nathaji Lad Vidyalaya in Sangli.

In 1972, along with some colleagues from Sangli, he established Vishrambag Education Institute. At present, 17000 students are studying in this organization with establishment of kindergarden, primary and secondary schools.

He had a long struggle with the government on the issue of unsubsidized schools. He had contested from Pune teacher’s constituency in 1996. He was a close associate of former MLA Sambhaji Pawar and the late Venkappa Patki. T. D. Lad’s uncle was Krantisinha Nana Patil.

 TD Lad, who has a great love for education, obtained his BSc Agri degree at the age of 75. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by a foreign university. He took his breathe on Thursday morning. The last rites were performed at Amardham Cemetery in the morning.
