Police inspector, constable caught taking Rs 2 lakhs bribe

PUNE: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE– A police inspector and constable of the Nashik rural police were arrested by the Pune unit of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Thursday, while accepting Rs two lakhs bribe from Pimpri-based businessman.

The arrested accused Inspector Rajesh Shirsath and constable Sanjeev Ahire, both posted with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Nashik rural police.

According to ACB, the accused told the businessman that a Nashik court has issued proclamation against him in a fraud case. The accused had come to give him warrant and demanded the bribe. Ahire allegedly demanded Rs two lakh bribe on behalf of the inspector for not arresting the businessman and helping him in the case.

They called the businessman near Mitra Mandal chowk. Meanwhile, the businessman had complained to the ACB who laid a trap and caught the constable red handed while accepting the bribe money. The accused inspector was standing at a distance. Later he was caught too.

An FIR has been registered with Swargate police station against them for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
