PMC to make RCC compound wall mandatory

NPnews24 Online Pune: “In order to avoid the repetition of wall collapse incidents like Kondhwa and Ambegaon, the Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to make Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) compound wall mandatory instead of the stone boundary wall in the city,” Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Engineer Prashant Waghmare said.

He also said that a new policy will be decided over it soon. Also, the rules regarding labour camps will also be prepared, he said. 29 workers had died due to wall collapse in Kondhwa and Ambegaon.

While speaking at the general body meeting, all corporators strongly criticised the administration’s methodology on the wall collapse accidents.

Several corporators, along with Opposition leader Dilip Barate, alleged that the civic administration is also responsible for this incident. They asked the civic administration to give an reply over the issue as soon as possible.

They also demanded details of the report filed by the College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) on the wall collapse incidents.

The administration has changed the way of functioning and demanded the responsibility of the concerned officers to prevent such incidents in future. Waghmare disclosed this information in this regard.

Waghmare said, “To prevent such incidents, the boundary wall will be compulsorily be constructed only with RCC. It should be mandatory to make sure all security measures are taken by the builders. The rules will also ensure safety in labour camps in the PMC jurisdiction. Accordingly, the city’s development control manual will be changed.”
