Pimpri-Chinchwad : Unrest prevails in industrial hub over inflated electricity bills

Pune: With businesses finding it difficult to sustain and make profits even after lockdown was eased, the pressure of clearing pending electricity dues has put both the small and large industries in a difficult spot.

Several members of the industries and associations in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation jurisdiction have hinted that they will stage a protest against the Maharashtra State Electricity Development Corporation Limited (MSEDCL) if the electricity rates are not revised.
Despite several assurances from the government’s side about relaxations in the bill, the ground reality has not changed and there has only been a hike in the power rates. The head of Federation of Association of Pimpri Chinchwad Govind Pansare said, “Every year there is a spike in the electricity charge and there is always some or the other explanation that is given to us. We have all faced huge losses and aren’t in a position to take any extra charges right now.”
The association has now approached Nationalist Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar to seek relief in this particular issue.
