PCMC Launches Aggressive Drive to Seize Properties of Tax Defaulters

Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Tax Collection and Taxation Department has initiated a sweeping drive to confiscate properties with outstanding dues. The crackdown has already resulted in direct action against 1012 property owners, underscoring the municipality’s resolve to enforce compliance.

According to official figures, the enforcement measures include sealing 346 properties, issuing attachment certificates on 538 properties, and disconnecting tap connections for 128 defaulting property owners. With the pace set to intensify in the coming weeks, the PCMC has set a daily target of sealing properties, confiscating assets, and disconnecting tap connections at 500, aiming to address all outstanding dues exceeding Rs 50,000 by March 31.

In a stern warning to defaulters, the municipal corporation has emphasised the necessity of settling dues promptly, especially for those with the financial means to do so. With a staggering 6.15 lakh registered properties in Pimpri Chinchwad city, the PCMC operates across 17 zones to ensure tax compliance, offering online payment facilities via various applications.

The financial year 2023–24 has witnessed a substantial contribution to the municipal coffers, with 4.31 lakh property owners collectively depositing Rs 746 crore in taxes. Leveraging technology advancements, the tax collection and taxation department has embraced the Hi-Tech Dawandi initiative, utilising public address systems to publicly announce dues and urge timely payments.

Significantly, upon settlement of dues, the concerned defaulters are publicly acknowledged over the mic.
