Passing out of Marine Engineering specialisation course- INS Shivaji

PUNE: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- A total of 60 officers, including five from the Coast Guard and 13 from friendly foreign navies, passed out from the portals of INS Shivaji on 29 Dec 18, after successful completion of 79 weeks of Marine Engineering Specialisation Course (MESC). The Passing Out Parade of the 86th MESC marked the culmination of their professional training, where the academic curriculum ran concurrently with a demanding afloat and outdoor regimen, which ensured their all round development. These officers are now poised to take on their first appointment as Assistant Engineer Officers on board various ships.


Rear Admiral K Swaminathan, VSM, Chief Staff Officer (Training), Southern Naval Command was the Chief Guest for the Passing Out Parade. In his valedictory address, Radm Swaminathan congratulated the passing out officers, their parents as well as training staff at INS Shivaji. He exhorted the officers to continue their quest for knowledge and continually adapt to technological advancements, in order to become thorough professionals. He exhorted the young Engineer Officers to lead by example and pursue excellence in every endeavour.

On the occasion, the Chief Guest also awarded trophies to meritorious officers in various  fields. The ‘Hammer’ for the ‘Best All-round Officer’ was awarded to SLt Praveen Singh Kanyal. Lt Cdr Md Imran Khaled from the Bangladesh Navy, and SLt V Manoj stood first and second respectively in the ‘Overall Order of Academic Merit’. This is the first time in the history of MESC that a Bangladeshi officer has stood first in the overall order of academic merit. The DGCG rolling trophy for ‘Best All Round Coast Guard Officer’ was awarded to Asst Cmdt Abhidev Upadhya. The Vice Admiral Daya Shankar Rolling Trophy for ‘Best Sportsman’ was awarded to SLt Amit Singh and the ‘Best Project Syndicate’ award was given to the project on ‘Development of Predictive Analysis Trainer Kit’. The FOC-in-C (South) Rolling Trophy for ‘Best International Officer’ was awarded to Lt Cdr Md Imran Khaled from the Bangladesh Navy, while the Commodore’s Rolling Trophy for ‘Positive Living’ was awarded to  SLt Sahil Singh Dhanda.
