Abhijeet, with other seven school kids were being dropped to their respective homes by the auto driver when suddenly the safety belt of auto rickshaw swinged out open. He fell down off the auto and got crushed under the wheels. He died on the spot. The driver, arrested was clearly negligent about the safety of the deceased.

After giving repeated alerts, finally the government of Jamshedpur seems to have learnt a lesson. The Deputy Collector of Jamshedpur has ordered the auto rickshaws to be inspected and checked properly to ensure safety of the children.

The auto rickshaw drivers are having a tough time dealing with the strict actions taken by Jharkhand government.

School kids are notorious, yes but it is the utmost duty of a driver to take the kids to the school and bring them back to home safely.

While in Pune, Maharashtra, scenario is different, as according to the auto drivers of Pune, the security of school children are taken care of.

The parents now need to take an initiative and keep a check on the condition of the autos before sending their precious children to the school.

Np news 24 had a conversation with some auto drivers of Pune and according to them;
Nitin Deshmukh, an auto driver of Pune said, “Such incidents are not very common in Maharshtra. The school children are dropped to their respective homes with full security. The autos are tightly fitted with rods and nets to avoid any accidents.”

While another auto rickshaw driver, who owns a van as well, said, “The students in vans and autos are compulsorily accompanied by a caretaker of the children, who ensures safety of the children.”

Adding to that, he said, “We accommodate a total of 7-8 children in our auto rickshaws on everyday basis. I have been in this job for more than 25 years and by god’s grace, no such mishap has taken place. The government might order to accommodate 4-5 children in an auto only but it will be a loss to us and the fees per student will hike and will be up to 1000-2000/- in the near future, which is not really affordable by the families of the children.”
