No Marathi, No Amazon: Raj Thackeray gives ultimatum to e-commerce giant

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray has now given an ultimatum to the e-commerce giant asserting that Marathi language should be incorporated in the Amazon app.

On October 14, the MNS leader Akhil Chitre had asked the company to include the local Marathi language in the preferred language, which is useful for getting information, buying items, when there was an option for other language

A campaign was recently launched against the website/app and Thackeray said, “If you don’t accept our language in Maharashtra, you will not be accepted by us here,”.

The party has also put out posters outside the e-commerce site’s office with the hashtag that says #BanAmazon.

“Even after several representations, discussions and requests, the Amazon India team seems adamant on not incorporating the Marathi language on the e-commerce platform. So, If they wish to keep out Marathi, we will keep them out,” said MNS leader Akhil Chitre.
