Pune: MLA Siddharth Shirole | Non-vegetarian food waste, including chicken, mutton, eggs, and fish, poses a significant health hazard. In light of this, MLA Siddharth Shirole has called on the state government to instruct Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to establish projects for the proper disposal of such waste.

The Aundh and Bopodi areas in Chhatrapati Shivajinagar Assembly Constituency are home to numerous markets and hotels that sell a variety of non-vegetarian products. These establishments generate waste from chicken, mutton, eggs, and fish, which is often carelessly discarded in the Mula river basin at night. The improper disposal not only causes foul odors but also leads to pollution and health concerns for citizens. MLA Shirole highlighted that similar problems are arising in other parts of Pune city as well.

Currently, the Pune Municipal Corporation lacks a proper mechanism for disposing of such waste, leading to an estimated accumulation of around 10 tons of non-vegetarian food waste in the city daily. If left unaddressed, this issue could pose severe health problems for citizens in the future. Previously, the municipal corporation had a disposal system, but it has been inactive for the past two years. However, ample space is available with the corporation, making it essential to urgently establish large-scale disposal projects in uninhabited areas.

MLA Shirole called upon the state government to direct the municipal corporation and allocate funds to address this pressing issue immediately.

In response to the concerns raised, Minister Uday Samant assured that instructions will be issued to the Pune Municipal Corporation promptly to set up a proper waste disposal project for non-vegetarian food waste, ensuring the well-being and health of citizens in Pune city.
