Maoists shot dead sitting TDP MLA, ex-MLA near Vizag

In major incident, the banned Maoists/Naxalites allegedly shot dead legislators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) including one sitting MLA in Tottangi village in Dumbriguda mandal on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased MLA K Sarveswara Rao was a legislator from Araku constituency. Rao alongwith ex-MLA S Soma were shot by about 50-60 Maoists.

Rao had won for the first time AP assembly elections in 2014 on YSR Congress ticket. Later he switched over to TDP. He was the government whip in the assembly.
 Police officials said that the Maoists had long discussion with them before they were shot dead. The Maoists reportedly unhappy with the MLAs for allowing quarrying in the area which they believed were affecting interest of Girijans.
