Maharashtra : Ransom of Rs 5 crore demanded from businessman Sanjay Ghodawat, One arrested

Kolhapur : A case of demanding ransom of Rs 5 crore from Kolhapur’s famous industrialist Sanjay Ghodawat has come to light. The family members including Sanjay Ghodawat were threatened with death if the ransom was not paid. However, the police has arrested the accused in this case from Hatkanangale.

56-year-old businessman Sanjay Ghodawat lives in Jaisinghpur of Hatkanagale taluka of Kolhapur district.

The accused allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore through WhatsApp messages, SMS and WhatsApp calls between June 13 and 18. The accused also threatened to kill the family if the ransom was not paid. It is alleged that Sanjay and his accomplice Nilesh Baghi (resident of Belgaum) had also received similar threats. After this Sanjay reached Hatkanangale police station and lodged a complaint. Police have started investigation by registering a case against both the accused.

The accused Ramesh Kumar Prajapati Thakkar, who is demanding ransom, has been handcuffed by the Hatkanangale police. Delhi resident VP Singh, Thakkar’s accomplice, has absconded and a search is on for him. Police have recovered Rs one lakh in cash, a mobile phone worth Rs 15,000 and a diary from the accused. An attempt to extort ransom from Sanjay has created a stir in Kolhapur.
