Maharashtra Monsoon Session | Water Supply Concerns: Ravindra Dhangekar Raises Questions on Pune City’s Water Crisis in Maharashtra Legislature
Pune : Maharashtra Monsoon Session | During the ongoing monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature in Mumbai, MLA Ravindra Dhangekar of the Kasba Assembly Constituency in Pune raised a significant concern about the water supply in the city and the 34 surrounding villages under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Dhangekar highlighted the persistent water scarcity issue faced by the residents of Pune city and various Peths for several years. The Kasba Assembly Constituency, which falls under Peths, consists of suburbs within Pune city. The water situation in these areas is critical, with the Pune Municipal Corporation demanding 22 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet) of water from the Panshet Dam chain. To meet the water needs of Pune city and the surrounding villages, the demand is for 21 TMC of water. Dhangekar questioned whether this demand would be fulfilled to address the water problem in Pune city.
Responding to the query, Industry Minister Uday Samant explained that the question pertained to the 34 villages recently included in the Pune Municipal Corporation. A budget of 1500 crore rupees has been allocated for this purpose, and five tenders have been issued. The preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for 29 villages is currently underway, and once completed, the necessary funds will be made available.
The issue of water supply in Pune city and the surrounding villages has been raised during the Maharashtra Legislature’s monsoon session, reflecting the pressing need to address the water scarcity and ensure adequate water resources for the growing population.
