Knock-Knock! RSS May Visit Your House for Door-to-Door Screening in the Red Zone Areas for YOUR Safety

Pune : Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which is in the forefront of relief work, has been working to provide food to the poor, prepare blood banks, purchasing vegetables from farmers and reach people even during Corona crisis. Now the RSS has started a door-to-door screening in the red zone areas of Pune, the second largest hot spot of Corona in Maharashtra. For this, teams consisting of one doctor, two volunteers, two police and one MANAPA employee have been formed.

The number of COVID-19 sufferers in the Pune MANAPA region has crossed 1900. The number of patients in its neighboring town of Pimpri Chinchwad has risen to 113. So far, 95 deaths have been reported in the entire district. In Pune, it has been declared a Red Zone in view of the increasingly serious situation. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has joined the relief work along with the administration and other voluntary organizations. In this episode, the Sangh has started a door-to-door screening of all red zone areas. Police and MANAPA employees are also included in this campaign.

Team is made up of a doctor, two Sangh volunteers, two policemen and a Manpa employee for screening. This team visits the red zone areas and contacts people from house to house. Those whose health is found suspicious, are sent to the hospital for further investigation. In this campaign, which started from April 28, 14 thousand 322 people have been screened in 2687 houses in 29 areas. Of these, 93 people have been sent for further investigation or treatment. So far 54 doctors, 182 volunteers, 39 employees of Pune Municipal Corporation and 44 policemen have participated in making this campaign a success.

Sunil Khedkar, head of the Sangh’s Pune Area, told the media that the Sangh has started this campaign in collaboration with Pune MANAPA and Pune Platform for COVID-19 Response (PPCR). For the launch of the campaign, Pune metropolitan unionist Ravindra Vanjarwadkar of the union and Rubal Gaikwad, joint commissioner of Pune Manpa, appealed to the city doctors to attend the screening. Many doctors from Pune agreed to cooperate in this campaign. After that 400 PPE kits were arranged in collaboration with PPCR and screening work started.

The volunteers of the Sangh are familiar with the geography and people of the area due to their working style. Therefore, they are getting the support of local people also. For the screening, the team uses a PPE kit for two days. After that the used PPE kit is destroyed as per the instructions of ICMR. The team set out for a two-day screening is also sent to a quarantine for two days.
