Maj Gen Inderjit Singh, Balan Foundation’s Punit Balan flag off Narveer Tanaji Run

Pune : NpNews24 OnlineThe Indrani Balan Foundation organized the Narveer Tanaji Run on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence and the 351st anniversary of the Maratha Army’s victory at the Sinhagad Fort. The run took place between Rajgad and Sinhagad forts.

An inspirational initiative was organized instead of a competition since this is the first year of Narveer Tanaji Run. The Indian Army’s South Maharashtra and Goa Division Head Maj Gen Inderjit Singh and Balan Foundation’s President Punit Balan flagged off the run at Rajgad.

The same route was chosen for the run, which was taken by the Maratha Army on February 4, 1670. It is a tough terrain due to steep slopes up to 60 degrees. However, the enthusiastic runners completed the race within four hours. It was concluded at the statue of Narveer Tanaji Malusare on Sinhagad Fort.

Southern Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen JS Nain distributed the certificates to the participants. He underlined the need for fitness to complete the tough run. He lauded the civilians and army men, who participated in the run.

The novel and unique initiative of Narveer Tanaji Run could be accomplished due to the jawans, army officials, athletes and citizens. In all, 351 runners took part in the initiative, of these 200 runners were from the Indian Army while 151 were citizens and athletes. Demonstrations of climbing, rappelling were organized on the route of the run to boost the runners’ enthusiasm. A pipe band performed during the concluding ceremony while an armament exhibition was organized on the Sinhagad Fort. This kindled valour and patriotism among the participants.
