While choosing the members of the committee the legal team was consulted and the decision will be taken after they submit a report.

Almost a year later the dissolution of Municipal Education Board, the municipal corporation have decided to establish the education committee. It was claimed that the laws under which the committee was made were not clear. And to clear out the ambiguity regarding the law, the leaders requested the legal department to interfere.

The BJP has stated a wish that the committee should comprise of total 26 members. And out of the 26,13 should be elected corporators and the other 13 should be approved corporators.

However, the opposition is questioning their wish asserting that the committee will again be a political rehabilitation as the previously dissolved Municipal Education Board. Therefore the legal department was appealed to examine this issue. The municipal corporation is soon planning to declare the report.

Who will not be included

The full report is yet to be out, but from the initial discussions, it is certain that the corporators will be included in the committee. In case there is a demand to add any other member from different post then assembly hall will be responsible to take the decision. This was claimed with the view of Article 34.

Dissolution of Municipal Education Board –

The board was dissolved on the order of the state government in June 2017. The board had control over all the assets and liabilities of the Pune Corporation’s primary and secondary schools. These schools admitted over one lakh students across the city. It was said that the civic body looked after the functioning of the school and the purchase department looked after the distribution of uniforms, books, etc. Even after the six months of the dissolution, the Pune corporation was having a hard time finding an alternative. With the order of cancelling the board, the commissioner also  gave the order to set up an education committee. Finally, after one year, the corporation is working on setting the committee up.
