Historic ‘surgical strike’ to be observed as a Day : UGC

The historic surgical strike in year 2016 made the whole nation proud of Indian armed forces.

It was India’s one of the biggest victories and the whole nation rejoiced after 7 launchpads of terrorists were destroyed by Indian army. It was India’s one of the biggest fight backs across LoC against the attacks by the terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir’s town of Uri where many Indian soldiers lost their lives.

The biggest surgical strike carried by Indian armed forces will be now recognized as ‘Surgical Strike Day’ such has been ordered by University Grants Commission (UGC). The UGC on Thursday directed varsities and higher educational institutions across the country to observe September 29 as “Surgical strike day”.

The commission has suggested that the students shall pledge their support for armed forces by writing letters and cards which may be produced in both digital and physical format.

Special programmes held near the India Gate, New Delhi in tribute to such day.

Savitri Bai Phule University, Pune will be celebrating this day as a recognition to this day and to give tribute to the army soldiers.

“The letters and cards should be shared with PRO Defence and PIB for publicity across various media,” the UGC said. In the first such action, India carried out surgical strikes on September 29, 2016 on seven terror launch pads across the LoC with the Army saying its special forces inflicted “significant casualties” on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“The NCC units of all universities should organize a special parade on September 29 after which the NCC commander shall address them on the modalities of protection of the borders.

The varsities may organise a talk-session calling ex-servicemen to sensitize students about sacrifices made by the armed forces,” the UGC said in a communication to all Vice Chancellors on Thursday.

“A multimedia exhibition will be organized around India Gate on September 29. Similar exhibitions may be organized in states, union territories, important towns and cantonments across the country. The institutions should encourage students and faculty members to visit these exhibitions,” the letter added.

 Although state minister of West Bengal, Partha Chatterjee declared that the universities of Kolkata will not be celebrating any such day, reason given by him is, this day is a mere political strategy by BJP ahead of elections.
