Former BJP MLA Dharamchand Chordia passes away

Dharamchand Chordia, a senior BJP leader from Dhule district and former MLA of the Legislative Council, passed away in Pune at the age of 71.

Former MLA Dharamchand Chordia has been a full-time activist of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since 1977. From 1978-81, he was the State General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. In 1982, he became the National Secretary of Yuva Morcha. He was given the post of BJP’s State Secretary for his work done at the national level.

Dharamchand Chordia was a member of Dhule Municipal Corporation from 1984 to 1990. He was elected to the Legislative Council in June 1992. He was jailed for 19 months during the Emergency. He was also imprisoned in the Marathwada renaming movement. He was also the President of the District Marathi Press Council.

He had met with an accident in 1992 while attending a family function in Jodhpur when he was a MLA of the Legislative Council. He had since moved away from active politics.
