Delhi Defeat : Demand For Change in Congress, Tussle Over Rajya Sabha Seats

New Delhi :  npnews24 : All India Congress Committee (AICC) Delhi headquarters 24 Akbar Road is undergoing change. The concerns of the party have increased after the interim president of Congress Sonia Gandhi’s health and humiliating defeat in Delhi. In view of this, the demand for change in the top leadership of the party is gaining momentum. Whereas before the Rajya Sabha elections to be held in April, the old faces of the party are opposing this inevitable change.

In view of the health of the interim president of the party, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi’s supporters want him to be reinstated as the party president, while the old leaders of the party are of the opinion that this will send a wrong message. Senior party leaders believe that a leader outside the Gandhi family should be elected as the president before Rahul Gandhi is finally restored. But Rahul’s close leader and the party’s youth brigade are growing restless about the party’s position.

After the recent embarrassing defeat of the Congress in Delhi elections, the party’s young brigade is restless after seeing signs of happiness among the senior leaders of the party. The tweets of leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sharmishtha Mukherjee are enough signs that there is growing discontent in the party and there is a wide rift between the leaders of old and new generation.

There is an uproar in the party headquarters about the change in leadership after the Rajya Sabha elections in April. After Holi, the date of the AICC Convention is to be set so that Rahul Gandhi can be elected as the party president.

However, there are chances of conflict between the two factions regarding the Rajya Sabha seats before the re-coronation of Rahul Gandhi. This year, a total of 18 members of Congress are retiring from Rajya Sabha, but Congress can send only 9 members to Rajya Sabha.

In April, Rajya Sabha seats are getting vacant in Congress ruled states like Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Veterans like Motilal Vohra, Digvijay Singh, Kumari Selja, Madhusudan Mistry and Hussain Dalwai are retiring. Rahul Gandhi believes that young leaders should be sent to the vacant seats of Rajya Sabha. Leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Randeep Surjewala, Milind Deora, Jitin Prasad and RPN Singh are considered close to Rahul Gandhi.
