BIG NEWS : Power Grid May Fail if Everyone Together Shutdowns Power Tomorrow, Threat of Blackout

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the country at 9 am yesterday, appealed to all the people to turn off all the lights of the house for 9 minutes on April 5 at 9 pm and lit the candle/diya. Many types of reactions are also coming on this appeal of Modi, now the electricity department has expressed big concern. Maharashtra’s Energy Minister Nitin Raut has expressed concern over the Prime Minister’s announcement. He said that if all the lights are switched off in one stroke, it can cause grid failure. All our emergency services will stop and it may take a week to restore power.

There may be a risk of blackout –
This call of PM has put the power grid at risk of failing and blackout. In such a situation, the challenge is to maintain stability in front of the power grid, avoiding a situation like blackout. In view of the potential threat, power professionals have been asked to be on duty across the country to consider steps related to the safety of the power grid. Sources say that the power demand will be reduced by 15000 MW due to the light being turned off for 9 minutes. This will affect the frequency. Calibration management will be required in this situation and there is only one day time for this. The power grid needs to manage frequencies in a blackout-like situation.

According to a report, the power shutdown due to the PM’s call will reduce the power consumption by 3000 MW. This may cause high-voltage problems. RC Shahi, a former secretary of the power department, has said that the power grid is capable of managing the shortfall in electricity demand. He said that the power demand or load would be reduced, but if the frequency is managed properly, there would be no instability.
