Bharat Bandh in Pune: Police identify 20 spots of protests; adequate security measures taken

Pune: A large number of political parties will be participating in the ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by farmers in support of farmers’ agitation in Delhi on December 8. Dr Ravindra Shisve, Joint Commissioner of Pune Police said, Pune police is co-ordinating with protestors to ensure that the agitation takes place peacefully and no unexpected incident takes place. Police will maintain law and order as protests are likely to take place at 20 locations in the city.

Farmers from Punjab and Haryana have staged a sit-in protest against the new farm laws passed in the Parliament. Bharat Bandh has been called upon to show support for the movement. Farmers’ organizations, various parties in the city, various social and voluntary organizations will participate in the protests. Pune police have set up tight security against the backdrop of the agitation.

Regarding this Dr Shisve said, “We continue to talk to the agitating parties and organisations with meetings being regularly held for the same. Police inspectors of various police stations have been notified.”

Police have identified 20 locations where the agitation is likely to take place in the city. Peaceful protests in democratic way are expected within those places with no harm to other citizens. Safety will be given priority by keeping adequate security, mentioned Dr. Shisve.
