270 Eminent Citizens Wrote to CM Kejriwal, Demanding Unbiased Investigation in Delhi Riots Case

New Delhi : Around 270 eminent citizens from Delhi wrote to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanding a ‘free inquiry’ from a retired judge for the communal riots in February this year. He alleged that contrary to the recommendation of the Delhi Minorities Commission, the Delhi Police is conducting a ‘concocted’ investigation.

Among those who signed the letter were retired Air Vice Marshal – N.I. Razzaqui, former Foreign Secretary Muchkund Dubey, former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah, CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat, social activists Harsh Mander and Swami Agnivesh, journalists HK Dua and Mrinal Pande, former Planning Commission member Sayeda Hameed and academicians Prabhat Patnaik and Jayati Ghosh, among others, also reminded Kejriwal in letter about the “grave disquiet and concern about the unfair, unjust, one sided and manufactured ‘investigation’ by the Delhi police.

They said that the letter has been written by the Delhi Police to express disappointment and concern about the unilateral, unjust artificial investigation into the communal violence in North East Delhi. The letter written to Kejriwal states, “We are writing this letter requesting an independent and time-bound investigation led by an appropriate retired judge.” The investigation should cover all aspects of the violence. ”Those who signed the letter included senior journalists HK Dua, Mrinal Pandey, former Planning Commission member Syeda Hameed, Ambedkar University Vice Chancellor Shyam Menon, activist Agnivesh.
