Youth Congress Activists Arrested for Attempting to Burn PM Modi’s Effigy in Pune (Video)

Pune: On Monday, February 26, Deccan police arrested five Youth Congress activists for attempting to burn the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This incident took place on February 26 at around 7 p.m. in Pune’s Balgandharva Chowk, near Jhansi Rani’s statue.

It is learned that the said incident of publicly burning the effigy of Prime Minister Modi was done by the activists of the Youth Congress to show their support for the farmer’s agitation going on at the Indus border in Punjab and to protest against the death of a farmer that took place in this agitation.

A meeting of the Youth Congress was organised on Monday at the Congress Bhawan in Shivajinagar. At this time, the Deccan Police had received information that some activists would commit misdeeds. Accordingly, the police had deployed tight security at numerous places in the city.

Around seven in the evening, eight to ten Youth Congress activists came to Jhansi Rani Statue Chowk from Ghole Road and attempted to burn the effigy of the Prime Minister. Immediately, on-duty Senior Police Inspector Vipin Hasbanis, Sub-Inspector Mahesh Bhosle, and Dattatray Sawant of Deccan Police Station intervened and stopped the activists from proceeding.

The activists were then immediately detained and taken to the Deccan Police Station for further investigation. In this case, a police complaint was lodged against Congress activists Rishikesh alias Bunty Baba Shelke, Prathamesh Vikas Abnave, Ehsan Ahmed Khan, Muralidhar Siddharam Budhramas, and Rahul Duryodhan Shirsat late at night.
