Youth can handle torn jeans but what about torn economy: Sena leader Urmila Matondkar takes jibe at Uttarakhand CM

Actor turned politician and Shiv Sena leader Urmila Matondkar took a jibe at Uttarakhand CM Tirath Rawat over his ‘ripped jeans’ remark questioning about the ‘torn economy’.

Matondkar tweeted, “Manyavar … the promising youth of the country will handle the torn #jeans … but what about the torn #economy. #RippedJeansTwitter #rippedjeans”.

The newly appointed Uttarakhand chief minister recently stirred a row by saying that women wearing ripped jeans send the wrong message to society and children. Speaking at a workshop organized by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun, Rawat said that he was shocked to meet a woman, who runs an NGO, wearing ripped jeans on a flight with her kids.

“What kind of message are we giving out to society,” he said. Amid widespread condemnation of Rawat`s comments, several women, including politicians and celebrities, posted photos in ripped jeans with the hashtag #RippedJeansTwitter.

Amid uproar over Rawat’s ripped jeans remark, his wife defended his statement today, saying his words were not being presented in full context. “He (Tirath Singh Rawat) said that women’s participation is unprecedented in building the society and the country. It is the responsibility of the women of our country to save our cultural heritage, save our identity, save our costumes,” Rashmi Tyagi said.
