World Earth Day 2020 : 50 Years of Earth Day, Google Doodle Celebrates with Message ‘Bee Good to Earth’

Mumbai : Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970 and now includes events coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network in more than 193 countries.

This year marks 50 years of Earth Day. The theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable. The enormous challenge but also the vast opportunities of action on climate change have distinguished the issue as the most pressing topic for the 50th anniversary.

Today, On World Earth Day 2020, Google has dedicated its doodle to bees, the smallest and most important creature on Earth. Google is raising awareness about the importance of bees to our planet with an interactive doodle. Opening to a ‘play’ button, an animated bee pops with fun facts on how its community is critical in growing two-thirds of the world’s crops and ‘85% of the world’s flowering plants’.

For this doodle, Google had partnered with The Honeybee Conservancy to share intriguing facts related to honeybees and their importance to the ecosystem.

Apart from this, there is also a small game in which users can learn fun facts about bees and our planet how bees sit on flowers and carry life forward. The doodle has been created with the hope that people all over the world understand the importance of bees on the earth and humanity.
