WB CM Mamta Banerjee passes resolution against the three contentious far laws

The West Bengal Legislative Assembly passed a resolution against Centre’s three farm laws on Thursday, becoming the sixth state to do so.

The resolution was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee.

While speaking on the resolution, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the Centre should either withdraw the new laws or step down. The decision of the Chief Minister was supported by the Congress and the Left Front.

CM Mamata Banerjee slammed the central government for the 26 January violence in Delhi and said that PM Modi should convene all-party meeting to discuss the withdrawal of farm laws.

The West Bengal chief minister also claimed the Delhi police “mishandled” the tractor parade by farmers which resulted in the situation going out of hand on the Republic Day.

West Bengal has become the sixth state to pass a resolution against the contentious farm laws after Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Delhi.

The three farms laws, termed as reforms by the ruling BJP, are the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020.
