Two persons arrested for seeking extortion of ₹3 crore from builder by using name of former mayor Murlidhar Mohol; One of the accused hails from Kolhapur district

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune Crime News | A team of Pune police Crime Branch has arrested two persons for trying to extort ₹3 crore from a builder by spoofing the mobile number of former mayor and state General Secretary of BJP Murlidhar Mohol. The arrested accused have been identified as Shekhar Gajanan Takawane (35), a resident of Kothrud and Sandeep Pirgonda Patil (33), a resident of Kolhapur district. The accused spoofed the mobile number of Murlidhar Mohol and made a call to a builder in Kothrud and demanded an extortion of ₹3 crore. Since the builder is Mohol’s friend, he informed him about the incident. Mohol immediately informed Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik about the incident. Later, Mohol and his builder friend lodged a complaint at the cyber police station in Shivaji Nagar.

 

 

The complainant called up the accused and agreed to pay ₹10 lakh and called them to his office to collect the money. The extortion seeker sent his acquaintance Shekhar Gajanan Takawane to the builder’s office. After Takawane went to the builder’s office, he was arrested by a team of unit three and he was grilled. The extortion seeker, Sandip Patil, was calling Takawane to Swargate but he was frequently changing his location. Patil called Takawane to the old tunnel at Katraj. After the police came to know the location of Patil, he was arrested. The accused were handed over to the Kothrud police.

 

The action was taken by a team of police officials including Senior PI Shrihari Bahirat, PSI Ajitkumar Patil, ASI Santosh Kshirsagar, policemen Sharad Vakse, Sanjeev Kalambe, Pratap Padval, Praksh Katte, Dnyaneshwar Chitte, Vikas Chougule and Sawant under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende and ACP Sunil Pawar.
