Tree saved infant from dying after falling from the building

MUMBAI: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- An unbelievable occurrence took place after a fourteen-month-old boy survived after falling out from a window of his fourth-floor residence in Mumbai’s Govandi area on 3rd January morning.

Identified as one Atharva Barkade, the child was playing in the living room when he rolled off the 2-feet ledge and fell out from the sliding French window around 8.45 am.

At the family’s home in Gopi Krishan building on BS Devashi Road, the infant’s grandmother had opened the window to retrieve clothes left out for drying. However, she failed to realise that the window had not shut properly, reported Hindustan Times. Since the window in question had no safety grille, Atharva ran up to the window and fell out. The boy’s father, Ajit Barkade immediately raised an alarm and family members rushed downstairs.

According to the reports, the one-year-old was lying on the ground, conscious with the bent branch of a tree next to him. They soon realised that Atharva had fallen on the tree which is below their window and inside the building premises. The tree’s branch bent over leading to the child sliding down and falling down on the ground.

After which Atharva’s parents rushed him to two nearby hospitals but he was later shifted to the Fortis Hospital in Mulund where he is currently being kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Senior Inspector Shashikant Mane told that the boy sustained injuries to his lips and one leg but appears to be stable. He also added that the tree might have minimised the impact of the child’s fall and saved his life.

February 2018, in Ghaziabad, a four-year-old toddler fell off from the 10th floor balcony causing multiple injuries and died on the spot.

In Aventura, eight-year-old boy died after falling off from a high-rise building in September.

In the present case, it is not less than a miracle that the baby survived with minor injuries only.
