Traffic policeman suspended for trying to extract money from commuter near Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune Crime News | Lakhs of devotees visit the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple located on the Shivaji Road on the occasion of Sankashti Chaturthi. A traffic policeman who tried to stop commuters and collect fines from them instead of regulating traffic, has been suspended. The suspended policeman has been identified as Police Naik Anil Kallappa Jamge. (Pune Crime News)

Anil Jamge was working in the Faraskhana traffic branch. On March 11, Jamge was on duty at Budhwar Chowk on Shivaji Road. Two people on a two-wheeler were waiting at a traffic signal at 7 pm. Since the two-wheeler had a number plate of another district, he stopped them and asked them to show their licence. Since they did not have the driving licence, he told them that there was a fine of ₹5,000 for riding a two-wheeler without a licence. Since the vehicle belonged to someone else, he asked them to pay a fine of ₹10,000. He told the complainant to give ₹500 in cash.

The complainant went to the ATM to withdraw money however, since he did not have an ATM card, he returned. Later, Jamge took the complainant’s vehicle to the traffic division. He hid his identity by removing his nameplate. Instructions had been issued to senior officials and policemen to use body cameras during action.

However, Jamge did not use a body camera and did not follow the instructions. Since it was Sankashti Chaturthi, there was a huge crowd on Shivaji Road and this led to huge traffic jams near the temple. At this time, Jamge stopped the complainant’s vehicle and spent a lot of time arguing with them and neglected his duty. Hence, Jamge has been suspended for his irresponsible behaviour by DCP (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar.
