Tinder friend extorts Rs 36,000 from Pune woman

The Deccan Gymkhana police station of Pune city police has arrested a 29-year-old man from Nagpur for allegedly extorting Rs 36,000 from a 19-year-old girl after threatening to upload her obscene photo on social media. They had met on Tinder application used for networking.

The arrested accused has been identified as Subhojit Dasgupta (29) who hails from Nagpur.

The 19-year-old girl, a college student, who lives in Erandwane, has lodged the complaint against him.

Police said that the arrested accused is unemployed. He had created a fake account in the name of another person – Karan Oberoi – and started chatting with the girl who is a college student. He is unemployed.

The accused borrowed money from her under various pretexts. He had also asked her to send her obscene photos which she had sent. Later the accused threatened to circulate those photos on WhatsApp and social media, unless she have him more money.

After fed up of his demands, she lodged a police complaint. Police have booked him various offences under Indian Penal Code including 384 ( extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other sections of the Information of Technology Act.
