Three arrested for running illegal sex determination centre in a motor car

Pune : Deccan ExpressThe Indapur police and the state medical department acted against an illegal sex determination centre and arrested three persons. An offence has been registered against them. A car and test devices have been seized from their possession.

 

The accused have been identified as Praveen Popatrao Deshmukh (32), Toushif Ahmed Sheikh (20), both residents of Rajale, Satara district, and one more person. Deshmukh works as a technician in a sex determination centre. He has been booked under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection Act), 1994 & Amended Act, 2003.

 

According to the police, Indapur Sub-District Hospital, Indapur Medical Superintendent Dr Santosh Khamkar got a tip-off that an illegal sex selection centre was being run in a car. Dr Khamkar, Dr Eknath Chandanshive, Dr Shrikrishna Kharmate and Dr Amol Khanaware intimated the police. Medical experts and the police chased the car.

 

A couple had arrived on a two-wheeler at Indapur-Akluj road. The couple got into the car. The car started travelling at a high speed. It halted near a brook at Bhandgaon village. The police and experts arrived there and examined the car. It was revealed that an illegal sex determination test was being conducted in the car. Deshmukh, Sheikh and the person accompanying his wife were arrested.

 

This action was taken under the guidance of SP (Pune Rural) Dr Abhinav Deshmukh, Addl SP Milind Mohite and DySP Ganesh Ingle. A team headed by PI Suryavanshi took the action.
