Tandav : Bail plea of amazon Prime India head junked by Allahabad HC

New Delhi : The Allahabad High Court on Thursday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Aparna Purohit, the India content chief of Amazon Prime Video, who has been booked in 10 FIRs across the country for hurting religious sentiments by streaming the web series Tandav.

Allahabad High Court has expressed its displeasure over the content of Amazon Prime’s web series Tandav. The court clearly said that Hindu gods and goddesses cannot be insulted in the name of expression. The court said that respecting all religions was the objective of the framers of the constitution.

It is known that the High Court had reserved its decision in this regard after hearing on anticipatory bail on 4 February. In this case, the single bench of Justice Siddharth was hearing the case. The court stayed the arrest of Aparna Purohit till the judgment was reserved. An application was filed in the High Court on behalf of Aparna Purohit for anticipatory bail.

In the Tandav web series, the scene which insulted Lord Shiva was fiercely discussed. Due to this scene, not only this series but also its actors were fiercely trolled. An FIR was lodged in Gautam Buddha Nagar against Aparna Purohit and others. Aparna Purohit has been accused of messing with the sentiments of Hindu Gods and Goddesses through a web series broadcast.

FIRs were registered in sections 153- A (1) (B), 295- A, 505 (1) (B), 505 (2) and many others. In this web series directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Saif Ali Khan, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub, Sunil Grover, Gauhar Khan, Kritika Kamra and Dimple Kapadia were seen in important roles.
